AEDs

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device is used in combination with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to treat sudden cardiac arrest. The AED can correct irregular heart rhythms such as ventricular fibrillation (VF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT). An AED can either be fully-atomatic or semi-automatic. A semi-automatic AED requires that the user push a button on the device to deliver a shock. A fully-automatic AED will shock the victim within a few seconds after analyzing the rhythm without anything being done by the user. Both types of AED units are capable of treating sudden cardiac arrest. 

When shopping for portable defibrillators to purchase, ensure that the models that you are considering are FDA approved and come from one of the major AED manufacturers. AEDs are usually purchased with various AED supplies such as batteries, pads, cabinets, and signs.

After your AED arrives, inspect the packaging for damage, ensure all of the necessary components are present, and make sure that you and anyone else who may use the AED are trained in CPR and AED use. While AEDs are designed to be used by anyone, training builds confidence and prepares you for use.
